Another here from Twitter. You’re an incredible writer and you’ll make an equally incredible father. And if your parents don’t come around and you need a mom, I’ve already got 5 kids, happy to have one more.
Thank you for this great essay. I have a friend whose college-age kid plans to transition and I think this might help my friend get his head around it.
Hey! I found you on twitter and I’m so glad I did. Your writing style is very distinctly you, and I absolutely love it. I’m a student from India and aspire to be a writer someday. I hope I can be half as good as you. Good luck for everything. P.S: if you were my dad, I would love you so much.
I'm eating cereal, reading a trans man's article on his future child, and crying. I'm supposed to be headed to work on a horse lady's garden, but I'm busy crying here.
I had to make an account to comment, but I don't regret the (probable) spam e-mails I'll get from substack for a chance to say this:
You're an amazing writer. I'm a cis male, but I've experienced the difficulties (with are for sure a degree of magnitudes less serious than yours. I tip my hat to you.) living in a hispanic-populated city and conservative state. Religion is often the cause for homophobia in my ethnic group, unfortunately, so I've spent a majority of my life in the "closet."
Even though I'm cis, this story is one of the few that have made me emotional (and I'm personally not that feeling in times like these). I hope that your (future or present) child will grow up to be as amazing and courageous a person that you are, whether they are a minority or not. I very much hope I can get understand your experiences better, nonetheless.
You don't know me, but I want you to know that this was deeply touching and heartbreaking and beautifully written. My prayers are with you that life brings you fatherhood in whatever way it can.
Holy fuck that was so touching. I’m sure you’ll be an amazing father, and your child will make you farther’s day cards and buy you “#1 dad” mugs or any other cheesy parent merch, and complain about being dragged out on hikes or to cook or any other past time. I’m sure they’ll love you, their brilliant father
wow this incredibly inspiring to me. thank you for sharing THE truth and doing it absolutely unapologetically. We all need someone like you to show us the way.
I’ve had this tab open for so long, promising myself to read it soon. Well as a habitual tab opener, I’m so glad I did! I love your writing style and your openness. I don’t know how I managed to find you but I’m glad I did.
